90s Kids Shows on DVD: What’s Worth Money on eBay

Nostalgia can pay, big time. In Issue #75 of Flip Weekly I picked up The Complete Animated X-Men Series on DVD in a thrift store for just $15 – a show that came out in 1992. That complete series sells for over $200. It got me thinking… which DVD’s from my childhood are actually worth buying in a thrift store or garage sale and which ones should be left behind?

Turns out, not everything I loved as a kid translates to value. I would’ve bet rent money that CatDog was a solid pickup, but the complete series barely cracks $30 on a good day.

On the flip side, some of these 90’s shows are absolute goldmines. One of the biggest surprises was Arthur, the aardvark with the little sister D.W. The show ran for 25 seasons but just 4 seasons on DVD can make you over $200.

Honestly, some of these prices are wild. Others are a bit underwhelming but either way, below you’ll find the ultimate list of which 90s kids TV shows are worth buying out in the wild when you see them on DVD and which ones are best left behind.

If you don’t want to digest all of the information below, click here for my winners and losers in this category.

Note a few things in this table: the prices are in AUD, accurate as of the date of publishing, for the complete series, excludes any limited edition box sets or special editions and averaged when applicable. This is meant as a guide only, it is not financial advice. Be real.

Winners and Losers

We have just uncovered a treasure trove worth of valuable physical media. Some of these prices, I mean… $1,600 for 3 seasons? $750 for just 1 season? The prices are insane. On the flip side, it’s sort of sad to see my favourite shows selling for next to thing. Bittersweet, in most cases it means it’s now readily available for people to watch which means more eyeballs on it. That’s fine with me. Anyway, let’s go through the Winners & Losers.

The Unfortunate Leave Behind Losers 📉

CatDog – a Nickoledeon staple and personal favourite but sadly the complete series is barely worth $30. Turns out it’s too popular and too mass produced.

The Magic School Bus – always your favourite show to watch when the teacher rolled in the TV stand but even the complete series barely sells.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air – Will Smith is floundering in the DVD market but that’s all I’ll say before he pays us a visit and slaps us in the face.

The Glorious BOLO Winners 💰

The Amanda Show – holy crap, this literally blew my mind. Three seasons… yes, three… sold for $1,600. If you see this in the wild and pass on it, I’ll pull a Will Smith and pay you a vist.

Arthur – just four seasons can get you over $200! This show ran for years upon years, can you imagine if you somehow found them all?

Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat – I wasn’t a cat person until I saw this. $750 for a 1 series show? 1 DVD? Absolutely insane demand and one I will always look out for.
